Sharjah Biennial 11, “Re:emerge – Towards a New Cultural Cartography”, was curated by Yuko Hasegawa and opened on 13 March 2013 with more than a hundred participants from 41 countries. Its starting point was the courtyard of Islamic architecture as a space of learning and experiment, and it questioned the Western-centred view of knowledge.
